How To Wear Metallics This Season

Image via: @thinklikekandi

What do the 1960’s, 2000’s (Y2K) and 2020’s all have in common? if you guessed innovation and major world events your right! In our opinion there is no better way to forecast a recession without using metallics on the runway as an indicator. With the return of #Indiesleeze, it was inevitable metallics would make a major comeback. Let me explain.

Metallics really made their mark during the 1960’s space age era, an aesthetic not only in fashion but also in interiors and movies (think Star Trek mania or Barbarella) that embraced futurism and space imagination inspired by major world events such as Apollo 11 ( the moon landing mission). Brands such as Paco Rabanne, Courrèges (previously known as André Courrèges) and Nina Ricci pioneered space age relevancy in fashion with bold color blocking in the 60’s mod revival, and using unconventional materials such as chainlink/chainmail, metal, aluminium, plexi, plastic and modular shapes in interiors and fashion. Fast forward to the 2000’s and 2020’s designers such as Alexander Mcqueen, Rick Owens and Jacquemus to name a few pushed the envelope in utopian futurism coincidentally during times of economic crisis. Long story short, recessions ignite innovation, escapism and creativity making metallics a byproduct of this shift.

Seen all over the runways, see below how we are incorporating metallics in our wardrobes this season. Disclaimer: These options are not curated look books and are not meant to be paired together (although you can) but rather are suggestions. At LP we advise picking a shoe or a bag to get your full cost per wear on any trend.

The Cool Girl

These options are for the girl who isn’t scared to take risks while being comfortable.

Aritzia “The Super Puff” Jacket: $298 $199

This is the ultimate cool girl puffer, its modular design and functionality make it worth every dollar. This jacket instantly elevates a boring/lifeless running errands outfit-just throw this over a yoga set with a pair of sunnies and bam! You’re a star.

The hood is removable allowing you to wear it as a bomber, its super warm and it comes in different metallic colors: Blue Flame (blue metallic) and Devotion (pink metallic).

GANNI Indigo & Silver Denim Stary Jeans: $350

Im sure you have seen all the cool European girls on Instagram wearing these, to some these can be a bit much but they really are the next big thing.

Diesel 1DR Metallic Shoulder Bag: $547

This is probably 2022’s most memorable bag seen on every Instagram and Tik Tok trendsetter. It comes in a vast array of colors,we love the gold version and this beautiful orange

Moon Boot Icon Glance low snow boots: $265

These boots need no introduction, if you know, you know. They are super cute, light weight, and warm, lets normalize skiwear as everyday wear. These are a bit hard to get your hands on during this time of year, a great alternative are the new metallic UGGs .

The Glamorous Girl

This is for the girl who loves to go all out.

Paco Rabanne Heart-paillettes chainmail mini skirt: $2,886

This Paco Rabanne skirt is a true work of art. The mixed metal detail and heart shaped design make it hard to replicate. Here at LP we are major fans of the brand so, in our eyes they can do no wrong.

The Attico Friday mini metallic leather tote: $1283.08 $898.16

This metallic chartreuse color on this mini tote is stunning. It stands out without saying too much, best part is you can wear it all year round. We suggest wearing this in the summer with zebra prints and in the winter with a satin lapel blazer and sheer stockings.

Alexandre Vauthier pointed-toe 105mm ankle boots: $1127

These boots are the original. We have seen the replicas but there can only be one and she is the one. Its unique silhouette is feminine, edgy and flattering truly exemplifying what the brand is known for. They look amazing with denim, mini/maxi skirts and dresses. This boot comes in many lengths and colors but we prefer the ankle, we love the silver but the gold, blue and pink are stars in their own right (if your able to get your hands on a pair).

GCDS earring with crystals: $161.04 (duties not included)

These GCDS will have you standing out from the crowd, they are a bit hard to get your hands (especially in Canada) but here are a few links for a similar design (from GCDS of course) in a different color:

Clear crystal version

Pink without heart version

Girlie on a Budget

There’s no need to break the bank, this is for the girl who values the thinking behind cost per wear. The most cost effective way incorporating a trend is through accessories. Take a look!

Mango Metallic Heels: $119.99

These are a great dupe for the Prada slingback pumps for a fraction of the price. Metallic pointy toe kitten heels work with everything: cargos, mini skirts, trousers, dresses you name it. Options are endless and instantly adds a modern flare to your outfit.

MANGO Sequin mini skirt: $59.99

This skirt can be pulled out the closet for any special occasion. Worn with stockings and a turtleneck during colder seasons or even a white t-shirt and red lipstick during the warmer months. On a night out you definitely get your cost per wear on this, the best part is it looks like its worth a lot more than it is.

Zara Minimal Flap Shoulder Bag: $45.90

If you look close enough this bag closely resembles the coveted Prada cleo mini bag for a fraction of the cost. Perfect for a night out, its sleek design adds a cool factor to any outfit.

Wrap Around Silver Sunglasses: $31.18

Look familiar? If you had to double take at the price than you know what these closely resemble. If you guessed the popular Balenciaga wrap around frame glasses seen on everywhere, You’re Right! These Amazon sunnies are such an amazing alternative if you are not comfortable investing too much on this trend piece. Great part is, you can wear them all year long.
