Spring Summer 2023 Guide

Is it just us or is everything trending? trend fatigue is real, more than ever before with the rise of tik tok trend forecasts and fashion reports show us the contradicting nature of what is considered current. For example, 90s minimalism is reported to be trending consisting of clean lines and everyday basics. In another report the indie sleaze revival which consists of maximalist elements like fur, grunge, metallics and glitter is set to be this years biggest trend. Digital lavender, magenta, black, cobalt blue, grey and various shades of green have all been predicted to be the colour of the year. Either way, this just proves style is subjective, the key to combat this fatigue is to incorporate what you already have in your closet into what’s currently trending. With that said, make your own rules.

See below for our top 10 trends we believe are easy to take part in.

1.

Whimsigoth

Whimsigoth is a term coined via tik tok (where else right?) describing a whimsical goth aesthetic. In essence, think lots of black, lace and velvet. This shouldn’t come as a surprise with shows like Wednesday on Netflix reigning supreme with gen-zers wearing smudged liner, bangs and lots of black. They say the most sustainable thing to wear is whats in your closet, with that said this trend is easy to participate in because we all own something black, its gonna be a black’d out summer.

2.

90’s Minimalism

Unlike the decades prior, The 90’s were infamous for clean lines, tailored silhouettes and muted luxury. Think longline skirts in every material, solid knits, waistcoats, straight maxi dresses, big purses, column dressing, flip flops, white tanks, and Levi’s 501s. In short, if you want the look start by looking up 90’s model off duty and pin it on youre mood board.

3.

Over the Top

Given that we’ve just been freed from the shackles of the pandemic it’s only right people are in the mood to ditch their sweats for something more dressy. The return of the “going out” top is back! Metallics, sequins and feathers is all that matters.

4.

Utility Chic

Its all about the elevated cargo in 2023. Cargos have been hot for a while now, be prepared to see utilitarian workwear details like pockets and zippers on different materials like satin and organza.

5.

Grecian Goddess

This isn’t for everyone, but romantic silhouettes like pleating, draping and boatneck hemlines are major. These tailoring techniques are arguably inspired by women in greek mythology representing a form of romantic escapism. These silhouettes are great for vacation.

6.

Leather

Who didn’t see this coming, leather is spotted all over the runways especially in coats. This is a great trend to invest in given that leather is generally trending all year round.

7.

Denim on Denim

Who could forget Julia Fox’s iconic denim on denim moment early last year, it was inevitable this denim trend would take off for spring. Denim is always is in style, however green wash denim is all the rage and all over our pinterest feeds.

8.

Handkerchief Hemlines

Asymmetric designs have made their way into skirts and sleeves.

9.

Indie Sleaze

What do the Olsen twins, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Lindsey Lohan, flash photography and Tumblr have in common? Indie sleeze! this symbolized a carefree yet curated chaotic way of dressing during a time of economic hardship inspiring many millennial into a thrift culture and over the top party scene. this aesthetic has incorporated a lot of boho and grunge elements like eyelet print, dresses over pants, fur, metallics, suede, velvet, sequin, nylons, and neck scarves. We will being seeing more of this in the fall/winter months.

10.

Sheer

Sheer designs were spotted everywhere on the runways, this trend isn’t for everyone however wearing a slip under a sheer dress or tank under a sheer blouse still makes a statement without doing too much.
